History

In 1949, Bill and Lena Faye Kovener opened a small soft-serve ice cream store in Seymour, Indiana. While the tiny brick building has become well-known for its delicious ice cream, its history is much richer than its frozen treats. Owned by Lena Faye's parents, the store had its humble beginnings as a 3-pump Standard Oil Gasoline station. When the state road was relocated in the early 1930's, the station was converted into a convenient store selling bread, milk, and other goods to local residents. During this time Bill and Lena Faye were traveling the country, as Bill served with the Army Air Corps during the Second World War. Returning home, the couple took a risk and opened Kovener's Korner ice cream, one of Seymour's very first drive-in restaurants. The small brick building with its green roof, red brick, and yellow striped awning is easily passed by, but those whose curiosity has caused them to stop and visit have not left disappointed. Locally famous for their Chocolate Malt ice cream, a recipe that is still used today, Kovener's has become a summertime tradition for many Seymour residents young and old.

Today

While Bill and Lena Faye have since passed, their legacy and most importantly their ice cream recipe lives on. The Kovener Family still owns and operates the small store on 2nd Street, proudly continuing the work that began so long ago. Open throughout the summer months customers can choose from over a dozen ice cream flavor favorites as well as a wide selection of shakes, floats, and other delicious frozen desserts. We pride ourselves not only for our ice cream but for creating an environment in which our customers can create memories for a lifetime. We would like to acknowledge all those who have helped us to become the successful small business that we are today. We couldn't be who we are without our loyal summer employees of all ages, dedicated managers past and present, and the devoted 3rd generation of Koveners.

Community Involvement

Kovener's Korner is forever grateful for the loyal support of its customers and community; we could not exist today without your support. Our gratitude for you inspires us to do our best giving back whenever we are able. Offering donation items, sponsorships, charity fundraising, and events only hoping to return some of the love, memories, and kindness that has been given to us for all these years. Along with these gifts we are blessed to be able to provide over 100 Seymour residents work opportunities to grow and develop lifelong skills for their future endeavors.

Donations

Over our years of operation we have been fortunate to provide monetary support as well as donation items for a variety of clubs and organizations in the Seymour community. Just a few of the groups we have been able to support in the past have included the Seymour High School Football Parents Club, Girls Inc., Trinity Lutheran High School, Girl Scouts of America, Seymour High School Dance Marathon, and the Seymour Public Library. If you feel that a donation from Kovener's Korner may benefit your organization or a fundraising event please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Sponsorships

Kovener's Korner has had the privilege to sponsor a Little League Baseball team as well as a Softball team. Whether it's a win or a loss we love to support organizations that provide activities for kids to have fun and be active. We are always looking for new sponsorship opportunities so please contact us if you want Kovener's Korner on your team and don't forget to stop by after your game and celebrate with a cold treat!

Events

We love bringing the community together to share laughs, smiles, and stories by hosting various events throughout the summer months. In the past we have celebrated National Ice Cream Day with an ice cream eating contest and a 50/50 raffle to support a local non-profit. We also threw a big party to celebrate our 65th Anniversary, featuring local musicians from This Old Guitar Shop and catering from other Seymour businesses.
